The 31 Tufts Street project will transform a former parking lot into new, sustainably designed affordable housing and open space for the Somerville community.
The 31 Tufts Street project will create 16 units of mixed-income rental housing with a focus on long-term affordability for low-, moderate- and middle-income households that are facing the pressure of rising rents in the neighborhood. The project will target households earning between 50% - 100% of Area Median Income (AMI). The 2022 Area Median Income for Somerville is $140,200 for a household of four.
The building's design incorporates highly sustainable features that will support long-term energy efficiency and superior indoor air quality for residents. The project has been designed to Passive House standards and will include a roof-top solar array to support the building’s energy consumption.
The project will create a new pocket park; the park’s design reflects a 2+ year community process and incorporates the goals and priorities of neighborhood residents.
The site is located within a 5-minute walk of the the new East Somerville Station on the MBTA Green Line Extension.
